Kenneth Lee

Oil on canvas

20 x 24 inches

Painted entirely from live sittings, despite surviving the second world war as Battle of Britain Pilot and another 50 years to boot

Often portraits have to be painted from photographs because the sitter has limited time, or lives far away. The ideal situation however is the commissioned painting made exclusively from live sittings. Few contemporary portrait artists are prepared to do this, but for those artists that do, the results will convey the depth of the interaction and be all the richer.
This portrait was produced in the artist’s studio over seven sittings, with no photographic input. Sittings can be a great pleasure and many sitters enjoy the quiet meditative interlude in a busy life.
